UofT vs. UofE

Yo yo,

This is our first blog. I'm not even sure I'm using it properly. Nevertheless, as most of you know, we are here in Exeter safe and sound. Our first impressions are generally great (though personally the jet lag had me a little pessimistic on the first day- Steph).

There are some MAJOR differences I've found already between Exeter and UofT... yes, UofE and UofT rhyme, and both have blue as their colour of choice (fear us, we're blue?) BUT... some differences I thought I'd mention... (I'm sticking with the positive ones so I don't fall back into my pessimism of Monday)

- Exeter is hugely social. Even the big wigs in admin seem to promote the students' social life and the idea that all work and no play will indeed hinder our uni. experience. There are something like 180 clubs. I'm joining drama, stitch (an indie zine that sounds incredibly wicked), possibly X-tv (cooking show anyone?), and possibly moooore.
- Exeter is also VERY supportive- really big on student support- advice offices for everything you can imagine and they actually do help- amazing.
- um, the welcome week included a barn dance? Enough said?
- I hike up a public footpath through the woods for 10 minutes to get to the gym
- our student housing looks out onto hills with grazing sheep
- fair trade is promoted like nobody's business- everywhere.
- the entire campus is on one giant, steep hill

Alright, and thus ends my first blog ever. I have a blog, I have a cell phone, I am techno-Steph.
We hope you will visit us and see the UofE and the Exeter town for yourselves.

xo

Exeposed! Stepheter and Andrex! brilliant. I love it. You did go to the barn dance, right? Sounds like something you wouldn't want to miss. For real, I would love to go to a barn dance. I'm going to a ball tonight! But back to you two. Exeter is sounding like a really great place (so Steph, you're succeeding in being optimistic). I'm very excited about reading this blog! Hurrah for staying in touch!

Stepheter is great, but so is Techno-Steph! I love it!
Can a University be both social and supportive on one hand, and cutting edge academically on the other? There's no reasont to think it's impossible.
Be happy - I just saw a UWO student wearing a t-shirt that had on its back "Western: it's where you wish you were!" - not, in your case.
The programme you are enrolled in is not mainstream or typical for any university. It will have its very own ethos - and I think you have reason to believe that that ethos will be positive and creative.

You are not only "techno-Steph" (this from a man who has a cel phone and doesn't use it!). You are "Ni-Ni" once again. I said your name several times to Maya two days ago, and that's what came out!

Hurray for the U of SML!

Those positive differences sound awsome! UofT and UofE...I don't know why I find that so funny, but I do.
